Determination alone won’t help you to reach your weight-loss goal, but it is certainly a factor that will influence how successful you are likely to be. To lose weight you obviously have to reduce your calorie intake so that you consume fewer calories than your body burns, but without the determination to succeed it is going to be a struggle. When you’ve become used to eating whatever you feel like without worrying about calories it can be quite a challenge to re-train yourself to do things differently.
Plus, you’re not going to reach your weight-loss goal overnight and so you need to have patience and be committed to eating healthier and exercising more, as otherwise you will probably give up before getting to where you want to be. You can’t expect to be able to lose four or five pounds every week, especially as the recommended amount to lose is a pound or two. If you try to lose weight too quickly you will have to cut your calorie intake rather drastically so that it becomes impossible to follow your diet plan for very long.
You will no doubt have your ups and downs when it comes to weight loss, as everyone does, but the main thing is to pick yourself up when you’ve had a bad weekend and eaten lots of junk food and not done enough exercise. You have to look at the bigger picture and remember that not only do you have to lose weight; you also have to work at keeping it off. You therefore have to learn to deal with temptation and to control your eating habits without using one weekend of overdoing it as an excuse to continue gorging yourself.
With determination you should be able to keep your weight-loss goal in focus and adopt the habits that are required for you to achieve success. It can be tough sticking to a calorie-controlled diet, but when you are really determined to slim down it becomes easier to say no to an extra piece of cake and to take a trip to the gym every day. If you don’t have enough determination your negative mentality is going to make it difficult for you to motivate yourself to continue counting calories and to keep on doing exercise.
Seeing as though this is the only way you can lose weight you have to find the determination to achieve your weight-loss goal from somewhere, as otherwise the chances are you will give up and have to remain unhappy with your weight.
