Poetry: Get over it

by Barry Williams

Created on: August 31, 2010

Straining every muscle

Finish line almost there

Doing your best

Heart beating faster

Gasping for breath

Beaten, but only just

By someone three hundredth of a second faster

Fate was unkind

You didn't come first

Chin up and smile

Don't be a bad sport

Get over it

Life is a contest

A struggle

You find your other half

You think your life is complete

Then the rot sets in

Arguments and fights

Your partner finds someone else

You've done your best but you've been beaten again

Remember that first race

Chin up and smile

You can't always win

Get over it

Would that life was a constant bowl of cherries

Disappointment  a word not a fact of life

But would we be happy

If we got everything we wished for

Just by asking

Where is the satisfaction of that

Where is the joy of being number one

If not through hard work and effort

Those who achieve know hardship

Those who win aim high

Know that disappointment  is a fact of life

Build a bridge and get over it
