Bulletin board ideas: Bike safety

Many children ride bikes from a very young age, thus it is important that bike safety be highlighted in the schools.  One way to do this is through a bulletin board.  Consider the following ideas when creating such a board.

Bulletin board showing the right and wrong things to do while biking

You can separate the bulletin board into two sections.  On one section you can show people doing the right things while biking such as riding in the designated bike lane, wearing a helmet, obeying all laws and so forth.  On the other side you can show things that you should not do while biking such as threading in and out of traffic, riding without a helmet and so forth.  You can have writing explaining why these are bad as well.

Post up items that are related to bike safety

Instead of just putting up papers and two dimensional photographs, you can make the bulletin board more interesting to look at by placing actual items related to bike safety up there.  For instance, you can post up a bike helmet.  You can also put up the bike lights that can help others see you.  You can post up a horn to help others hear you and anything else you might use in the safety of biking.  You can also have information about why these items are so important.

A story or comic about riding a bicycle safely

A lot of little kids love to read comics and stories.  You can have the bulletin board be one about bike safety.  For instance, you can have the character do all of the safe things.  You can also go at it from a different angle and have the character do some wrong things, get into trouble, and then learn the right ways to do them to avoid an accident.

Make it a game about safe bicycle riding

You can make your bulletin board interactive.  For instance, you can make it a game with trivia questions about safe bike riding such as "What should you always wear when bicycle riding?" and "Where are the safe places to ride a bicycle.."  You can have the answers hidden under pieces of paper.

A bulletin board about bike safety can help teach the children about ways to prevent an accident and bike as safely as possible. Use the above ideas to help promote this important lesson.
