2010 Emmy Awards red carpet winners and losers

by MC Allen

Created on: August 30, 2010

The 2010 Emmy Awards presented us with a wide array of fashion and fun.  From glamorous to quirky all the stars came out to celebrate television and its big night.  With Jimmy Fallon as the host, the awards show itself was one of the best in the last few years.  However, the fashion did not deliver.  There were more misses than hits and as disappointing as that is, it certainly allows for some interesting commentary.

First, what was Anna Paquin thinking?  Her gladiator look by Alexander McQueen was a compete disaster.  I think that love must be clouding the newlyweds taste, because this dress was ill-fitting and completely too heavy for her small frame.

Speaking of ill-fitting, the bubblegum pink halter dress on Keri Russell made her breasts look too small and the dress too short.  Also, when you go to an awards show it is customary to put on make-up, not look like you are going to pick up the children from carpool after a work-out.

Oh January Jones, I know that when you are in a wedding people tell you that the bridesmaids dress can be worn again, but no one actually wears the dress again.  And even though a dress says Versace does not mean that it must be worn, by anyone.  From the cone shaped sweetheart neckline to the asymmetrical hem, this dress was one for the record books, and not in a good way.

Moving on to a few of the good ones, Claire Danes was spectacular.  This Giorgio Armani Prive dress was perfection and she was the perfect girl to wear it.  From her hair to her shoes, Claire Danes has grown into an absolutely stunning woman and this was reiterated last night on the red carpet.

Another star that did it right last night was Jane Lynch.  Jane sported a one shouldered Ali Rahimi eggplant gown and she has never looked better.  I loved how relaxed and happy Ms. Lynch was and when she won her joy was contagious.  There is something to be said for wearing the right dress on the right night.

Although black on the red carpet can get a little boring, Eva Longoria Parker went back to black last night and rocked it.  Her Robert Rodriguez dress had so many little details that at first look you could not get the full effect.  The dress, the hair and the man were absolutely incredible.

This is just a brief look at the red carpet last night.  There were so many more misses (Heidi Klum, Emily Deschanel and Sophia Vergara) and hits (Kim Kardashian, Kelly Osbourne and Lea Michelle).  All I have to say is, if you are going to get dressed up, get dressed up but do it right.
