My opinion over the reaction of the selection of Miss Haiti 2010 Sarodj Bertin.
I am the best friend of Sarodj's mother Mireille Durocher Bertin who not only was a colleague but was a counselor to my Political organization. PAIPH Parti pour l'Avancement Integral du peuple Haitian (in English Parti for the total Advancement of the Haitian People see wikipedia.com). In 1993 the last time I saw Sarodj and her mother, she was only 7 years old; two years before her mother was assassinated. I organized several masses in
New-york for her mom. Sarodj was waiting to be picked up when her mom was assassinated in 1995. Can you imagine a 9 year old girl to seeing that. Since, she grew up without a mom, I found it very cruel that in the Haitian media to have so many controversy about her participation at the Miss Universe pageant. First it was a big deal because she wanted to see the question before she gave an interview to a member of the government journalist who was there but never said a word about the death of her mother when she was assassinated. Then the most famous Haitian Newspaper who claimed that she is too light skinned and other negative things. And last, a phone call to the Miss Universe Organization, a group who could afford to pay to enter the pageant, who never participated in the pageant before claimed that they were part of the media who represented the Haitian community pageant to declare that until she gave an interview to the Haitian media to prove that she could speak creole, that she should not represent the flag.
Now what's so funny, the people in question are not a Haitian media, they are only people that has a u-tube channel like anyone or want to have a web that is not functioning as of yet. Last time I checked it was August 30th 2010, 7 days after the competition is over it is not ready. It is well clear that if Sarodj Durocher Bertin did become Miss universe that would definitely take the light off Wyclef Jean because not only is she beautiful, she is well-educated, a lawyer and she would attrack a lot of help to Haiti. Sarodj would probably talk about her moms death, which has been buried for so long. And as a woman, she would get some people backing her up to help do some great work in Haiti.
I commend Sarodj Durocher Bertin for her interior beauty because not every child who knows that her mother was assassinated in a country so brutally would want to go back to help. Talking to her I think she wants to continue
