The Internet today is full of web pages. Sometimes, we want to visit a web page again. Unfortunately, a web address can be long and complicated making it difficult to remember it by hard. We bookmark a web page so that we don't have retype its web address which may be long and completed at times again to revisit it. However, there are times that we want to share the web page with the rest of the world. Today, there are websites that allows us to do so and the act of booking a website and then sharing it with others is known as social bookmarking. Some of such websites include Digg, Reddit, Stumble Upon, Delicious, Tweetmeme, and Friendfeed. Here is something more about each of the mentioned social bookmarking sites.
Digg
Digg is a site that allows you to share links to articles and other materials on the Internet. In many articles on the Internet including news articles, you may see a Digg logo where you can click on to share it with other Digg members. As a member of Digg myself, I have a "digged" a number of articles. Digg allows its members to know how popular an article has been by showing the number of "diggs" it has. A member can "digg" an article that has been "digged" earlier by another member.
Reddit is a website that is similar to Digg where you can submit links to websites that you find interesting and may be of use to other members. On Reddit, you can view links that are "Hot", "New", "Controversial", and "Top Scoring". You may, as a member, save your links.
Stumble Upon
Stumble Upon is a social bookmarking site where you can share websites, videos, and graphics with other members using their "Recommendation Engine". Members can also install a toolbar on their browsers so that it is easier for them to immediately share whatever they see on their browsers. A member can also follow other members to know what they themselves have to share and to add whatever they are sharing as favourites.
Delicious
Delicious is another website that is similar to digg and reddit. It's slogan is "The Tastiest Bookmarks on the Internet". As a member, you can save your own links for every other member to see and know what new links are coming in.
Tweetmeme
Tweetmeme is a website where you can bookmark links posted by members of Tweeter. There is a button on the side of each link that you can click on to re-tweet it. The more tweets the link receives the more popular the link is.
Friendfeed
Friendfeed is a site where you can share and discuss any website you have found on the Internet with your friends, relatives, and co-workers.
