A Past Generation's Evil
My heart aches with such sorrow
At the sight of all this vice!
Like a savage's arrow,
Clean through my chest does it slice!
This happened well before my time,
But it grieves me just the same;
Deep in my bones, this ghastly crime
Sears my marrow like a flame.
Is it possible for me
To commit such gruesome deeds?
Could a barbarian be
Within, ready to sow his seeds?
Could I,
Have this evil within me—
For my soul to be charred black
As to quell others' liberty?
