A well used bulletin board can be the first place students go to check the latest on campus news, sports scores, items for sale, and upcoming social events. Bulletin boards becomes popular for very distinct reasons, and a few little tips for creating interactive bulletin boards, could have yours becoming the one that everyone stops to check on their way to the dorm.
It is very important to locate the bulletin board in a high traffic location. The more people who pass by it the better. Increased traffic means a better likely that people will contribute to the bulletin boards content, and more content, means more people stopping to see what is on the board. A well placed bulletin board can be the hub spot for keeping up on current campus trends and events. Select your location wisely.
Create a theme or niche for your bulletin board. Bulletin boards tend to become a potpourri of information, but under all those bits of this and pieces of that, is generally a main concept that people stop by to view on a regular basis. It could be that you post all the latest upcoming social events on your bulletin board, or it could be the previous football games scores, but find your niche and post it faithfully.
Niche items that you might use for your college bulletin board might be: apartment rentals, items for sale, job postings, bursary and scholarships listings, sporting event news, campus notices, or upcoming social events. Your board niche could even just be a fun listing of tips and tidbits designed to help students adapt to college life. Just be dedicated to your niche and insure that it is updated on a regular basis. If your bulletin board is consistent in providing the information that people expect to see there, then people will continue to stop by on a regular basis, to acquire that information. They will also utilize the board because they know that others will also be stopping by to search the boards content.
Post at the top of the bulletin board the regulations for using this specific bulletin board. There should only be a couple rules for participants to follow and these should be written out so that they are easy to understand. Insure that each post placed on the bulletin board contains the date that it is placed on the board. Over time the board can become cluttered so being able to identify, and remove, older outdated posts is very important. If there is a time limit that postings are allowed to remain on the board then this should also be listed in the regulations.
Select your location, find your niche, post your rules, and monitor your board to keep it uncluttered yet interesting. It isn't difficult to create an interactive bulletin board, it just takes a little innovation, and dedication.
