The spiritual side to life is not a mystical presence nor does it necessarily have to do with religion. Living a spiritual life in the simplest of terms is to believe in a presence beyond self, internal or external. If you search you will find a multitude of insights, suggestions, advice, instructions, some complicated, some seemingly ridiculous, while others just seem nearly impossible. Every individual has a different view about living a “clean” life, being with spirit, being spiritual, the terms may vary but they all share a common goal: Spiritual living.
To clean up the spiritual side of your life you do not have to get involved in complicated or time consuming practices developed to bring you to the spiritual path. Cleaning up the spiritual side of your life is as simple as making a decision to be aware. Awareness of self in relation to the world, in relation to self and personal relationships, work relationships, and the “God Consciousness” that so many seek to achieve.
Stop acting out of anger, disdain, hate, put aside prejudices and bigotries, develop a new belief about those who share your neighborhood, community, country and world. Develop a belief in a source greater than yourself, give “it” a name, God, Goddess, Yahweh, Jehovah, Isis, Venus, Zeus, it really does not matter. It is your personal power to turn to, seek guidance from, develop a working and loving relationship with. Of if you have a belief in God or God and Goddess, get to know Him and/or Her better. Have a conversation, ask for the things you need in your life to help you become the spiritual being you seek to be.
The hardest part of cleaning up the spiritual side of your life is taking action. You may feel silly at first if you are not use to praying or talking with a source you cannot see, feel, touch, or hear with your ears. Give it time the change that occurs within is worth the sense of silliness. For those of you who feel anger with God now is a great time to let Him or Her know. Write your “Dear God” letter, fill it with how you feel, share your most deepest emotions, thoughts and beliefs that have held you back from your relationship, She really won't mind. Actually She will reward you with a great blessing each and every day you take the time, 15 minutes is all you need, to share with God. Then be silent, let thoughts disappear, and rest, listen to your breath as it enters through your nose and exits through your mouth. Then get on with life.
