Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can infect you with illnesses that cause diarrhea, fever, vomiting and abdominal cramps. With the latest food recall in eggs, we are being advised to eat them with caution. The outbreak so far has caused over a million eggs and more to be investigated. With that, the Federal Drug Administration has released a list of egg brands recently.
The first place where the eggs were found contaminated came from an Italian company located in Iowa named Wright County Egg. Distribution of these eggs were sent to food service companies in California, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, Nebrask, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. The brands which were recalled from this food service included Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph's, Boomsma's, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemps.
Determining the cartons, which were 6-18 eggs, of infection comes from identifying the numbers ranging from Julian dates 136-225. These numbers should also be next to the plant number which begins with the letter P followed by either 1026, 1413 or 1946.
While the investigation is going underway, another company has been added to the list for possible contamination - Hillandale Farms. These eggs are distributed to grocery stores both retail and commercial. Locations of these contamination are spread out over 14 states that are similar to Wright County with the addition of Indiana, Kansas, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Texas.
The only plant numbers infected for this farm is P1860 with Julian dates 099-230 and P1663 with dates 137-230. The brands which have been pulled off the shelves are Hillandale Farms, Sunny Farms, Sunny Meadow, Wholesome Farms and West Creek.
That doesn't end the trouble for the FDA as they have also included another company from California called Moark LLC who repackaged about 5 brands from Hillandale Farms into Yucaipa Valley Large, Albertsons Large, Mountain Dairy Large, Farmer's Gems Large and Large Loose foodservice pack. Only a dozen from each of these brands have been recalled.
As more news of infection from Wright County break news, brands like Cardenas Market with plant number P1026 on Julian dates 136 and 228 and Trafficanda Egg Ranch with plant numbers 1026, 1413, 1720, 1942 and 1946 on dates 136-229 were revealed.
It seems, the number of recall is reaching stammering heights each day as the food service companies investigate the ongoing plants. Thus, with it we don't know until it's announce. So consumers are advised to steer clear of the food until the recall is complete.
More information can be found at the FDA's website for the latest updates of brands.
