Halo wars is a prequel to the original three halo games, it even predates the upcoming halo reach next month. This game follows the path of a unsc ship and its crew rather than a lone wolf master chief. The difference don't stop there the game is a real time strategy rather than a first person shooter so if your like to do all the killing yourself you won't get much of that here. But thats where negativity ends for me with this game as you are thrown in to a familiar world with new stories you experience breathtaking cinematics, real high quality scences you see familiar faces, spartans I mean and of course all your covenant buddies as well as the good old zombie like flood ready to tear you a new one.
The gameplay and graphics are both top end in this game, the game is both fun and comfortable and fun to control, despite the relativly simple controls you do not feel limited at all when playing the game, the graphics on the other hand are brilliant with bright and colour explosions and you'll send your enemy flying. The cut scenes are by far the most brilliant with very good voice acting.
The story is good but not as good or gripping as the first three games you care about the characters fate but it just flow as nicely as you standard halo game, saying that the missions are very entertaining and pretty challenging on legendary but if your not that familiar with rts games you'll want to start with an easier difficulty until you improve your strategy such as resource management etc. as the player is limited by the number of building they can build and you certainly can't build a defense shell like in command and conquer but that's the point of this game to be fast rts fun and it works.
It took we a while to get all the achievements expect the general rank for online play as this would take many hours to achieve but still they are alot of fun to get, skirmish mode has a several different game modes and a variety of maps you improve your skills as well as an intuitive adaptive difficult which will get harder every time you beat the cpu player and easier every time you lose until it finds the sort of ideal diffficulty setting, this can be both exciting and annoying as it forces to go to your limit every time you play but can always change to a preset difficulty.
Online play on this game is very fun, just make sure you have a head set as things tend to go better when you communicate with your allies of you can always play 1 vs 1 if your not up for talking tons of fun either way.
In conclusion this is the game to get for rts and halo fans alike get and you won't regret it.
