Poetry: Vampires

by Catriana McClelland

Created on: August 27, 2010

Death is a dream of silence
Where darkness and light are one
Life is a dance of violence
Where happiness is a pun

I am a creature of shadow
A close friend of the night
I move from the sun's early glow
I flee from the coming light

Beneath a mountain grave I lie
As the sun creeps slowly across the sky
I dream of blood and the battle cry
of my victims as they slowly die

I rise with the moon as darkness comes
I crawl from the grave and feel the need
I listen to the wind as it howls and hums
To give me the scent of where I'll feed

I meet the night with the will to hunt
The light of the moon now sets me free
I feel the breeze against my cold skin and want
To ride the waves of the blood's decree

I stalk the shadows and dark pools
I swallow down my first victim's blood
And in the paths of unwitting fools
I release the lives in a thick red flood

I am to some strange place now drawn
Away from light and life soon gone
Before the glistening hours of dawn
To play with Death's unwitting pawn
