Ok… I must admit it… I’m one of those cheesy “ sports mom’s” I’m not the kind of mom that wears the schools jacket and the big huge buttons with my son’s faces on my jackets but I’m considering it…. Really I am…
Is it just me but isn’t the mom with the button’s always the mom with the short feathered hair that screams through the entire game and you secretly wish she’ d come down with some nasty stomach bug and stay home?
I think I want a button… no better yet… I want huge decked out magnets that stick to the side of my car and say…. “Tanner’s Mom” and “Tristan’s Mom” with a list of their respective sports and maybe pictures of them in each of their team outfits! Yep, that’s what I’m going to get. I am also going to make up t-shirts with their faces on the front and then numbers on the back.
I purposely ignore the social norms that go along with team sports. I always and I mean always try to wave at my children so they know that I am at a game! I also always call them by their nicknames “Tan-tan and Boika” How else are they going to know that it’s me “” cheering them on. If I yelled come on “Louhela” things just wouldn’t be the same…
Way back when I learned another huge lesson that I was unaware of “ You are not allowed to talk to the coaches when they are coaching the game” me being one of those friendly types didn’t know this and as I approached the coach of the kindergarten baseball team I was given the “Stare of death”
You see a coach outside of the game and they are the sweetest, nicest, and friendliest of them all but watch out world when they are coaching! Its game time and the alpha males will rise and lead their wolf packs into triumph!
I also never know where to fit in with the other sports mom’s. I don’t’ fall into the “just right” category that society likes to put us all into…. I’m an artist and psychologist… I’m a little too soft and a little too lumpy- and I’ve never even attempted to be a part of the norm. It’s ironic that me a High School Geek/ honor student is raising athletes. I was not prepared for this! I was seriously hoping to raise little Einstein’s that are on the chess team and could play the piano and would engage me in philosophical questions at the age of 5.
Well, I love it and I accept my title and wear it with pride! I am a “Sports Mom”!
