Internet sites you couldn't live without

by Jonathan Shen

Created on: August 26, 2010

What are the Top Internet Sites that a person cannot live without?  We go on the Internet all the time and you are saying that we should pick only the “top” Internet sites that we mostly go to?  How many would that be?  Five?  Ten?  Twenty?  Fifty?  This question can sometimes be pretty vague because there are tons and tons of websites on the Internet that we usually jump around to.  A better question for this type of topic would be what are the “top Internet sites that we are most fond of?”  If we were on the go, we would browse through the Internet through our cell phones and if you are fans of Apple, our iPads.

I am on the Internet all the time, and I could not even keep track of which websites I really like to visit.  With this being the case, I would just brainstorm and pick the Top 5 websites that I am normally on when I am surfing on Firefox (or Safari on my iPhone).

5.  Google/GMail

I go on this website all the time to check my e-mail, whether it is on my computer or on my iPhone.  However, Gmail is more than just an e-mail account.  I use Google’s other services such as Google Documents sometimes as my word processor and Google Calendar to sync up my tasks on my iPhone.  I might set up an account for Google Voice, Google’s answer to both Skype and Vonage.

4.  YouTube

Since I have written a previous review article on YouTube, I will keep this short.  I pretty much go on YouTube when I want to watch movies or videos instead of having to go to Fry’s or Best Buy to purchase $10-$15 DVD’s.  Who wouldn’t want to save his or her money just to watch their favorite movies or TV shows right on the Internet?

3.  Bank of America/Wells Fargo (Draw)

Since I bank with both Bank of America and Wells Fargo, I would not have a relationship with either bank without checking my funds on my checking and savings account online.  With Bank of America, I could check to see how I am doing on its “Keep the Change” program.  With Wells Fargo bank, I could also check to see how many points I have earned on debit card transactions and rewards.

2.  Facebook

Whether it is during the day when I’m working, or at night before I go to bed, I cannot just leave my friends hanging on the balance.  Facebook, like Myspace, is a very good social networking site, but Myspace does not have the added “features” where I can post on their walls (or comment boards) to see how they are doing, and chat with them; Myspace’s chat board is very difficult to engage.  Of course, both Myspace and Facebook have their advantages and disadvantages.  Could Facebook let its users customize their pages?  Myspace can.

1.  Helium.com

Where would I be without this site?  Where would my articles be without this website?  Where would my LIFE be without this website?  Ever since I started writing for Helium, I thought I had not been able to find a summer job.  Helium did save my life, and I am really glad that I have become a part of their family.
