Most individuals with tooth sensitivity experience pain or discomfort after eating hot or cold foods. An individual may experience pain from eating sweets or cold weather temperatures. Chronic sensitive teeth should be examined by a dentist. There are many treatments to prevent tooth sensitivity. A dentist may recommend toothpastes, mouthwashes or dental treatments.The toothpaste helps reduce painful sensitivity caused by exposed dentin on the surface of your teeth. Tooth sensitivity can be treated through proper dental hygiene. Proper dental hygiene prevents gum disease, cavities and tooth sensitivity.

The outside layer of the tooth is the enamel. The inside layer of the tooth contains dentin. When small holes occur in the enamel, the dentin is exposed and the nerves contained in the dentin reacts by causing tooth pain.Gum disease results in receding gums, exposing nerve endings and resulting in tooth pain.Gum disease can be prevented through proper hygiene. You should avoid aggressive brushing or over brushing. Aggressive brushing can cause breaks in the enamel of the teeth which results in tooth sensitivity. An individual should avoid brushing the teeth hard which can prevent gum recession that can lead to tooth sensitivity. Use a softer toothbrush to avoid aggressive brushing.A fluoride mouthwash can help reduce tooth sensitivity.

A toothpaste for sensitive teeth can help individuals reduce tooth sensitivity. A toothpaste recommended for sensitive teeth prevents cold stimuli from reaching the tooth nerves. It helps block pain stimuli such as pressure and cold air. It fills small breaks in the tooth enamel.The toothpaste provides instant and lasting relief from hypersensitivity.There are many over-the-counter toothpastes available to treat tooth sensitivity. Choose a toothpaste formulated for sensitivity relief.The toothpaste makes eating and drinking less painful.

Excessive consumption of highly acid foods effect the tooth enamel. Avoid highly acidic foods which can increase sensitivity. The highly acidic foods prevents the sensitivity toothpaste from working properly. Avoid soft drinks, tea and citrus foods such as tomatoes and lemons.Most teeth whitening procedures can result in tooth sensitivity.
