There is no secret formula, no magic wand, nor even a defined, designated task list, which will guarantee anyone the ability to make money online. For every person who succeeds in making any significant amount of money online, at least another thousand will fail in the attempt. If there is such a thing as a simple secret to making money online, however, it has to be deemed a human quality, an element of character and something which comes very much from within.

There are many words which can be used to describe the quality required of those who wish to successfully earn significant levels of money online. Words such as imagination, innovation, originality and experimentation all have different meanings but they can all be used in this connection. Successfully making money online is about working hard, certainly, but it is also about lateral thinking, thinking outside the box, and not being afraid to attempt the untried and untested.

When anyone considers trying to make a decent level of money online, there are several broad areas in which they can make their attempt. They may firstly wish to try their hand at blogging of some description. Blogging is a process which has undergone a huge transformation since its simple and humble beginnings. It is of course still possible to develop a traditional blog and generate revenue from Google Adsense and the sale of affiliate products but there are other ways in which blogging is now undertaken. Twitter is one of the sites often referred to as a microblog, while hosting platforms such as Squidoo and Hub Pages afford the option to build what are almost a cross between blogs and websites. All of these methods of earning money online are very genuine and afford huge possibilities to users but the requirement exists to be original, to find an angle or niche yet to be exploited, if reasonable levels of success are to be realised. This is where innovation, imagination and very possibly experimentation will all come in to play.

Conventional writing sites such as Helium, Associated Content, Suite 101 and lots more all afford freelance writers different opportunities to earn from their craft. Although the levels and methods of payments will vary hugely, the commonality is that writers have to have something original to say. Just as in the age old practise of trying to impress an offline editor and get them to accept a piece of work, online writers have to reach their target audience and make them sit up and take notice.

Sceptics will claim that there is no such thing as a totally original idea. Irrespective of whether that be true or not, any existing idea can be sufficiently adapted as to become original. This may be by looking at a subject from a different perspective, refining a subject to very specific dimensions, or even challenging established concepts and principles, as scientists have done for centuries.

In a similar sense, it may be claimed that imagination cannot be taught. There can be no disputing this fact - for the simple reason that every single person already has it. The problem is, sadly but simply, that so many don’t bother to use it. By learning to use their imagination and simply think, “What if I did this?” rather than, “What am I supposed to do?” it is entirely possible for anyone to expand their thinking, develop their creativity - and harness the secret power which will be used in conjunction with defined Internet tools in order to make money online.
