Why English Premier League soccer is so popular

The English Premier League was founded back in 1992. Since then it has gone on to be one of the most competitive leagues in world football. The Premiership has some of the world’s biggest clubs, best players and most passionate fans. But was is it that makes the Premiership such a popular league and what is it that makes it appeal so much to the average soccer fan? Let’s have a look at some of the key factors that make English Premier League Soccer so popular.

The Teams - If you were to name the five biggest clubs in the world of soccer, two of them would without a doubt be English. Manchester United and Liverpool have been two massive European powerhouses for many years. In recent times Liverpool have fallen on difficult times but they still have a massive fan base and appeal. Manchester United are currently the biggest name in soccer, wherever you go in the world people have heard of this huge team. Add into the mix teams such as Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and now Manchester City and you can see the appeal of Premiership football. With so many massive names there are some classic matches almost every week in the Premiership.

The Players - The best players want to play in the best league. The premiership has many of the world’s greatest players. Wayne Rooney, Fernando Torres, Stephen Gerrard, Didier Drogba, Cesc Fabergas and up until recently Christiano Ronaldo all play in the Premiership. People want to see the world’s best soccer players pit their skills against one another, the Premiership offers players that platform to show their abilities.

The Fans - Without fans soccer would be nothing. The English Premier League has some of the world’s most passionate and loyal fans. An example of this is Newcastle United, they were relegated to The Championship (second tier) in 2008. Yet throughout the following season they still had the third highest crowds in the country. English fans are loyal to their club and will follow them no matter what. Liverpool have struggled for years under the leadership of Rafa Benitez yet the loyal fans stuck by the manager till the bitter end. If you ever have the fortune of getting to a match in the Premiership you will feel the magical atmosphere created by English fans. The ironic chants, the clever songs and the passion when a goal is scored really is second to none.
