Keeping in touch with friends or meeting new ones on the Internet has been one the most popular activities around the world. With social networking websites, people can share photos, play games, and even chat with one another on a daily basis. There are a number of such websites on the Internet and the popular ones include Facebook, MySpace, and Friendster. Having some experience with social networking sites, I can share with you something interesting about the three sites I have mentioned.

Facebook

Facebook is the most popular social networking websites. You may have heard of it over the radio and seen it being mentioned in the news on television. You may be a member of it yourself. I believe Facebook is popular firstly because members use the Facebook wall to post their status and feelings; and share links photos, videos, and other items that can be shared. Using the wall is easy making sharing an easy task on Facebook. Another reason for its popularity, I believe is that members can play various online games with one another and send virtual gifts to one another.

Businesses, celebrities, and organizations can create pages to attract fans and  to update them with the latest news and information. Another reason for its popularity is that it is easy to create groups for various purposes. Like most social websites, members create photo albums and add photos to it.

MySpace

MySpace is another popular social networking site but not as popular as Facebook. MySpace is unique in the sense that it has special categories for celebrities in various fields including music, sports, and movie. A musician, for example, create a profile for himself or herself on MySpace with the intention of telling others that he or she is a musician. He or she can also sell his or her music on his profile page. Anyone who is interested in music can get the latest music news on MySpace. Some celebrities in fact have a profile on MySpace. You can also use the search function on MySpace to look for videos, images, and music. You can add comments on myspace that contains graphics and animation. You can even personalize your profile page with different themes and backgrounds.

Friendster

Friendster is also a popular social networking site but not as popular as MySpace or Facebook. Like Facebook, you can upload photos and play games on Friendster. The reason, I believe, that causes Friendster not being as popular as Facebook is that it does not have a wall where members can easily post and share materials with their friends. Sometimes, there is also a flash advertisement that blocks the view of certain information.  Another problem with Friendster is that attachments on comments cannot be viewed properly. Instead, a person can only view the html code. Members of Friendster can send and receive messages using their personal email on the social networking site.

There is one feature in Friendster that may be a concern for some users. Members can view photos of members who are not their friends on Friendster and share the photos with other people by using a sharing tool. The sharing tools can be used to share the page with the photos on Facebook, Digg, StumbleUpon, Delicious, Twitter and other booking or social networking sites.
