Personally I believe marriage to be a sacred institution, I believe the vows two people make to one another under the jurisdiction of the legal system or a religious institution are scared and should last forever. That is very contradictory with my normally extremely liberal views. I was married once and I have been divorced once. It takes two people to make it work and two people to make it not work, I have taken responsibility for my part, but I was encouraging of her to goto therapy with me and for us to work out our problems because I believe in the institution, she was not interested in any type of reconciliation, the things she had done to me were nor better or worse than some of the things I said to her, but she gave up. I don't give up, but I don't have control over other people so when she gave up I basically didn't have a choice, we divorced. Thankfully we had no children, I still do not and do not plan to. I know very few people that share my view on marriage so it's difficult for me to even consider it as an option. If it means more to me than it does to my partner it is not something we should partake in, in my opinion. I have lived with my girlfriend for 14 months and if you come by at any given time you would think we have been married for years and years, a lot of people call her my wife and I don't even bother to correct them, but the institution doesn't mean anything. People getting married and divorced on every little whim. If i went out and got married or divorced every time I had a mood swing I would have to have a 12 man team of divorce lawyers on permanent retainer.
