Fall has always been my favorite season. It brings the cooler weather along with the beautiful reds and golds of the trees changing colors. It heralds the beginning of a new school year and a new football season. There are so many fun things to do in the fall so I've compiled a list of them.
• Go back to school shopping. Nothing says the beginning of fall like the smell of brand new #2 pencils and crisp white notebook paper. It's such a pleasure to head to the stores, list in hand and return home with bags of erasers, glue, Trapper Keepers, crayons, markers and rulers.
• Stock up on fall scented candles and soaps. My stepdaughters always love coming to our house in the fall because of the way it smells. Apples, cinnamon, pumpkin and fall leaves are just a few of the scents available that bring to mind the crisp season of fall.
• Bake lots of fall goodies. Fall is the time to bake apple pies, cinnamon rolls and pumpkin bread. There is nothing like waking the family up to the smells of cinnamon and sugar when you bake a French toast casserole for breakfast. For desserts in the fall I make hot fudge brownie sundaes with warm brownies fresh from the oven.
• Have a college football party and invite your friends over. Simmer some chili in a Crock pot, bake up a pan of cornbread and have the gang over to watch the game. For those girls who don't like football, it's a good time to catch up with your friends over a few glasses of wine.
• Dig out the decorations. My kids love to decorate for Halloween. Troops of witches and goblins are scattered about our house, interspersed with lots of candles and bowls of candy. Toss in a few baby pumpkins and gourds and you are all set.
• Take the family to the orchard. Hay rides, apple picking and face painting are just a few of the fun things you can do at the orchard. Don't forget to grab some fresh baked donuts and apple cider on your way out!
• Take a fall color tour. Drive through a region full of trees changing colors and bask in the beauty of God's creation. Stop at a roadside park and take stroll. Feel the bite in the air, smell the crisp fall scent and hear the leaves crunch under your feet.
Fall can be underrated and forgotten. Summer brings vacations and beaches. Winter brings the holidays but fall has its own brand of happiness that is often overlooked. Do yourself a favor when the season strikes and stop to enjoy it!

We do not celebrate the coming of fall in the same way as we celebrate the advent of spring and summer. That is a shame.
