The tag may say Coach, but do you really need to spend $300 on a pair of shoes? No, you don't. A pair of decent shoes would cost you maybe $25. Instead of spending that three-hundred bucks, you could buy yourself TWELVE pairs of shoes (if you're a shoe person) OR you could buy one or two pairs of shoes and outfits to match. Even better...you could DONATE the money to a needy cause instead of buying some overrated name brand designer shoes.
I'm a girl and I like my share of shoes, but not ones that cost over forty dollars. There are plenty of nice shoes out there that don't cost you an arm and a leg. So why do other women buy such expensive shoes?
STATUS
One of the reasons people dress is for status. Celebrities are always seen in designer clothes, accessories, and shoes, etc. Due to the influence of the media, girls will want to wear what someone like Paris Hilton is wearing, like designer high heels. They feel the need wear the best because it's the best and because some lame celebrity was wearing the same ones. Oh, and because it's got the name brand logo slapped all over it.
TRENDS
Every girl wants to be trendy. Being trendy gives you confidence and makes you feel so much better about yourself. Sometimes we feel pressured into giving into a trend because we worry what others will think of us. This goes along with status, but trends are more 'going with the flow' or following what everyone else is wearing, while status is wearing something because a celebrity wears it.
Those are only two of the many reasons a girl may buy pricey shoes, but are they really worth it? Do you really need to strut around in a pair of pumps you could easily get cheaper at Belk's or JC Penney's? You don't! There is no need to waste so much money on a person's name! Spend your money on something useful like those bills you haven't paid yet or that repair you need on your car.
There are many substitutions for designer shoes. A pair of $188 Coach Fantasia heels can be substituted with JC Penney's Worthington 'Aubrey' heel for only $40. That saves you $148 and the ones from JC Penney's don't make you look like a hooker. Here are some other examples: Coach's Aliza Bootie is $188 vs. JC Penney's City Street 'Sean' is for $35, Coach's Bridgett heel for $198 vs. JC Penney's Olsenboye 'Union' heels for $60, Coach's Caper Signature Flat for $148 vs. JC Penney's Arizon 'Bryn' flat for $20.
So, ladies, make your choice - expensive, overrated and gaudy designer shoes or well-priced, decent look-alikes.
