This is not the usual article that talks about the beauty of friendship.
Everything started out with friendship. A year ago, my husband of almost 9 years met a girl during one of those playing card sessions that he used to go to. This girl is in her mid 40s, a widow for almost 3 years and spent almost all her time between self pity and gambling. She is not a sight of beauty just an ordinary girl who liked to flaunt her money around. After the death of her husband, her two daughters worked hard overseas so to send their mom a hefty sum of money so she wouldn't have to worry about their daily needs. Amy was his gambling "buddy". Their card sessions often than not would go on until the following morning. This girl, Amy started entering our lives after my husband decided to stop gambling with her. Amazing how women have a built in intuition before anything happens that I had a gut feeling Amy likes my husband. Due to the numerous fights we had, my husband decided to shift from simple gambling to cockfighting.
We are not a well to do family. He is just an ordinary policeman while I had a struggling catering business. Amy started ordering food from me, tons of food. It was like she had special occasions lined up every week that all of a sudden my dying business started picking up. Because of the good business she brought, I accepted her friendship. She would call me up every day and invite me to have lunch with her. She kept popping in our house with "gifts" for myself and for my children. She is always willing to lend a hand whenever something bad happens. She was simply too good to be true. Because of my previous suspicions about Amy liking my husband, I tried to avoid her. Yet, she was there clinging and playing the role of a crying widow perfectly and I thought, she needed a friend.
This year started out well with my business lifting off to a good start. My husband enjoyed going to cock fights and I supported him by giving him a little money. All this time, I thought it was better for him to go there than spending his whole day and night playing cards and leaving us on our own in the house. On his part, he kept away from Amy. He changed his mobile number to avoid receiving text messages and calls from her. When she comes to our house, he would stay in our room till she leaves. Yet Amy is a leech.
