Looking through the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook 2010-11 Edition, one will find that the industries which have grown and decreased in employment are charted, explained and analyzed until 2018. Not only that, the handbook goes beyond and further educates the reader on new job openings with approximate numeric values on the number of growth. With that, let’s take a look at what’s in store for Americans as we find out what is the fasting growing industries for 2010.
+ Goods-Producing Industries +
There will be 4 areas of concentration - construction, agriculture, mining and manufacturing. Out these four, construction will see an immense gain as roads, tunnels and bridge projects become frequent. About a rise in 19% will occur bringing in about 1,337 new jobs for that sector.
Across the board on the other three goods industries, we see negative growth as manufacturing will see about a 9% decrease with 1,206 less jobs. This will happen in part because of automation and international competition affecting the manufacturing industries. On the upside, the pharmaceutical and medicine manufactures will grow about 6% with 17,600 new jobs.
Overall, the least to decrease comes from agriculture with 1% in decline. However, the emerging growth in this sector will be from farm labor contractors and farm management services which will increase about 13% with 13,800 jobs.
Finally, mining is the second least to decrease with a decline of about 23%. This is in part to the environmental laws and regulations which makes use of technology to take over.
+ Service-Providing Industries +
There are over 16 areas of services listed and only 1 declined. That comes from the utilities sector which will see an 11% decrease by 2018. This will happen because of improved technology which will automate most call centers but the increase will come in part from water, sewage and other systems industry that will bring in a 13% increase.
The primary increase will happen in the healthcare and social assistance field where 25% of the whole US job market will emerge with over 4 million new jobs on the market. This will bring on an increase of positions in public and private hospitals, nursing and family care as longer life expectancies and the aging population increase.
The second stunning growth will occur in the professional, scientific and technical field with over 2.7 million new jobs by 2018, as businesses who need help to plan and keep their networks
