If Barack Obama does run for reelection the race will not be as easy as it had been the first time around. During the 2008 campaign we got so many pretty speeches and promises that were never fulfilled. Since then we have seen Obama in action as President of the United States. It is not the transparency and hope we were promised. And no speech he gives during a political race can change the failures we have seen from him as President.
First there was the stimulus. That was supposed to bring unemployment down to eight percent and keep it down, but it didn't. And the President still talks about it as if it is a great achievement. Even though it did not deliver what was promised he still expects us all to be thanking him for it. Then there was the extremely expensive health care bill. Not only was this bill a bad idea, the President's handling of the issue was atrocious. He continuously blamed Republicans for blocking the bill when they couldn't even do anything to stop it. He also told opponents of the bill to "get out of the way", then complained that they weren't contributing to the conversation on the issue. Then there was his poor handling of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. His response was very slow and despite numerous parties he claimed that he had been on top of the situation from day one.
And since he took office we have repeatedly seen poor character and a lack of leadership. He assumed the Cambridge police were stupid. He gave shout outs at a speech before addressing the shooting at Fort Hood. He still continues to blame the former administration for problems with the economy, and of course, at the same time takes credit for any good news on the economy. He compared the oil spill to 9/11 and went to play golf the very same day.
The list goes on and on. And the polls show that it is not just conservatives who are recognizing his failure to be a real leader. Many independents and democrats are losing faith in him. They are recognizing that this President has not fulfilled his promises, is not taking his responsibilities as President seriously, and is satisfied with bragging about accomplishments before they are even accomplished. So much for progress and so much for the hope that Obama promised us.
