What made Gilmore Girls so unique was its vast array of characters and how vividly each of them was lovingly painted by the show's creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino. The show ran for seven years, and even now still has a popular fan base.
The main characters are Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, who live in Stars Hollwo, Connecticut. Lorelai is a single mother and a business woman. She's also a caffeine addict, completely obsessed with pop culture, she talks very fast (as do the rest of the characters), and she has terrible luck with me.
Her daughter Rory is both pretty and intelligent. She loves everything about academics and that's the main focus on her life. As she grows up, she begins to realize that there are more important things in life, such as having a life, but she still focuses on her studies and her dreams of becoming a journalist.
The person that fuels their caffeine addiction is diner owner, Luke Danes. He's cantankerous but secretly friendly to those that he has a soft spot for, such as Lorelai. Compared to Lorelai's emotions being incredibly up and down and her always wanting more, Luke is very content living alone above his diner, which used to be his father's hardware shop.
Lorelai's parents, Emily and Richard, often get the blame for Lorelai's running away. Emily is incredibly controlling, scheming and narrow-minded. Things have to go her way, and if they don't, she'll find a way to make them so. Her husband Richard is more laid back than she is, but he has an incredible business mind, and finds sitting back doing nothing very hard to do.
Then there's Sookie, Lorelai's best friend. She helps Lorelai to run the Independence Inn, and eventually co-owns the Dragonfly Inn with her. She also has two children. She's a trained chef and a perfectionist, but she's also very clumsy and frequently injures herself.
Rory's best friend on the other hand, is Lane. She's a Korean who lives with her over-the-top, controlling Christian mother, who insists that Lane must only date Korean boys approved by her mother. However, Lane is not happy with this. She secretly listens to rock music, and eats things that she shouldn't, like pizza. Eventually she learns to play the drums and joins a band, moving out and living with her bandmates because she was kicked out by her mother, Mrs Kim.
Other notable character's include Logan, Rory's final boyfriend, who takes her out of her comfort zone and introduces her to a whole new lifestyle; Dean, Rory's first boyfriend; Jess, Rory's "bad boy" boyfriend and Luke's nephew; Miss Patty, town gossip and owner of the local dance school and Babette, Lorelai and Rory's neighbour, Miss Patty's gossip partner, and cat person.
