Fastest growing careers in 2010

by Kacey Stapleton

The goods news is some careers remaining relatively safe from downturns. Many jobs are currently experiencing fast growth  in 2010, but choosing the one that fits your own interest and expertise allows you to reshuffle this list of prospects into a realistic plan of action. For the most stable positions and best jobs for 2010, the list published by the US News in December of 2009 still holds true as employment and business factors are much the same.

Looking at the various fields set to continue growing the health care industry tops the list, and is set to do so for some time.  As baby boomers age they will place an increasing demand on their health care providers.  This generates a long list of jobs.  Along with registered nurses, hospitals and healthcare providers will need occupational therapist, lab technicians, physician assistants, dental hygienists, and optometrists.  Before looking for training in such positions, take a longer look at the job itself.  Carefully considering everything from what the job entails to the type of aptitude needed can keep this lead from becoming a dead end for you.

Other fields continuing strong are science and technology, civics and education, and business and finance.  In other words, jobs that answer a need will have to be filled. Civil engineer, environmental engineering technician, computer software engineer, systems analysts, fire fighter, EMT, court reporter, special education teacher, accountant, actuary, loan officer, and financial analyst are all jobs for which there will likely always be a need.

This doesn’t indicate those with a creative talent shouldn't look for ways to use this advantage.  Movie- makers and television studios will still need film and video editors, and the makers of video games will need multimedia artists.  Technical writers and curators are also much needed positions for those with these talents.

Currently the job market is much easier on those hiring than those seeking employment.  Massive layoffs, well known companies failing, and corporate belts tightening signal fewer opportunities while colleges continue to pour out new hopefuls searching for their first job.  Interest in a certain career can seem a small consideration against the supposed security of breaking into a fast growth industry.  The best job of 2010 however, is the one you want to pursue, and not the one you simply feel obligated to make a pitch for out of desperation.  Employers are sure to weed out those prospects with no real attraction or affinity for a job. Interest and talent are factors promoting longevity in an employee.  Anyone simply looking for a good place to ride out difficult economic times will appear less attractive in the interview room. To find the best, and fastest growing job in 2010 look closely at the fields for which you have an interest and aptitude that is also essential to the general public.  A little extra research and training can translate to a more secure employment future.
