Boston is a top destination for a weekend getaway in New England. It is great for families but it can also be a romantic place for a getaway with your special someone. There are so many different things that you can do that it never gets old.
From almost anywhere it is easy to drive into Boston but if you are coming for the weekend plan to come in before rush hour on Friday, traffic can be a bear. Parking is also expensive, really expensive, think about $40 a night so you may want to consider coming in on the train since Boston is on Amtrak’s NE Corridor or park in the burbs and take the T in.
Kimpton has several hotels in greater Boston that are perfect for a romantic weekend, are family friendly and includes lots of opportunities for specials. The Marlow is located in Cambridge but allows easy access to downtown Boston and near the Common Nine Zero is a contemporary gem that will even cater to your pet. In the wintertime one of Nine Zero’s specials includes skates rentals for the skating rink on the Common.
If you choose Nine Zero You will be an easy walk from Quincy Market, Faneuil Hall and the site of the Boston Massacre. You can of course also walk up to the Public Garden or down to Beacon Hill. Kings Chapel and the burying ground are also an easy walk away of you want to enjoy some of the wonderful history of Boston.
The T is also never very far away and if you are thinking of visiting the Museum of Fine Arts, this will be a great way to get there. Cabs are readily available if you want to get around a little more quickly. Though for the Fine Art Museum the T stop is literally right across the street. There is also several trolley tours that allow you to get on and off all over the city and also in Charlestown and Cambridge.
Three seasons of the year you can take a tour of Boston Harbor. It gives you a great view of the Boston skyline and also takes you to Charlestown where the Bunker Hill Monument is located as well as Old Ironsides. You can get off the boat and tour in Charlestown and then get back on the next one.
The Old North Church is located in the north end of Boston not too far from Paul Revere's House. Both of these are on the Freedom Trail if you decide you want to walk all or part of the trail. There is also lots of great Italian food in the north end and also some well know bakeries. It won’t be hard to locate them, look for the lines of people out the door.
You could come to Boston to spend a weekend many times and still not get anywhere near to all that there is available to visit. For more ideas visit the Boston CVB website.
