Ways to save money when buying a new TV

For many, watching television is an important part of their life.  They may be very excited when it comes time to purchase that new set.  Of course, a lot of people do not have an unlimited budget, so you might want to consider the following money saving ideas.

Do not buy the new television the moment it comes out

If you can wait even a small amount of time, you might be able to save a significant amount of money on your new television.  When televisions first come out, they are often marked at their highest.  This is especially true when a very special change has occurred such as with the new 3D televisions.  What often happens is that rather quickly more and more televisions of the same type come out and prices drop dramatically.  You might want to purchase a television that isn't the very newest, or if it has a special new feature that you can't live without, wait until that one drops in price.

Price compare

Different stores sell the exact same televisions for far different prices.  Some are simply much cheaper than others.  You should visit the different places and compare the prices.

Look for sales

Televisions very often go on sale.  They are especially discounted heavily when the holiday weekends come.  You may find an amazing deal on Black Friday, the huge shopping day the day after Thanksgiving.  Sometimes a store that is usually more will have such a big sale that they become worthwhile. Sometimes they will offer an alternative such as a free gift card or peripheral device with a television purchase.

Look at resources like Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports is a great resource, which lists the different televisions as well as what they deem best buys.  You will often find that a better television is not always the most expensive.  Sometimes they mark them up because of the brand name or features that will not be that useful for you.  You can also go on a source like www.amazon.com and look at the reviews.  You might find a great but inexpensive television with good reviews that will save you money.

Look for a pre-owned television

You might be able to spend next to nothing for a television that has been pre-owned.  Because televisions come out with new features and models many people do not wait until their old ones die before buying a new one.  They may sell them on ebay, list them on Craigslist or even sell them during a garage sale.

There are many ways to save on televisions.  Consider the above strategies.
