Runes of Magic is a free MMORPG. There are no subscription fees or charge for download. If you don’t have a problem with paying to enhance your in-game experience, you can purchase extras to make leveling and PvP more enjoyable.
Go to the Runes of Magic website and create an account. Download the program. It needs 5.3 GB of space on your hard drive and 512 MB of RAM. When the program finishes downloading, click “Start” to begin your adventure.
Enter your username and password. Runes of Magic provides added security with their click keyboard on the log-in screen. Keep key loggers at bay by alternating use of the click keyboard and your normal keyboard when you type in your password.
Pick a server based on your play style. Do you like PvP (Player vs. Player) or PvE (Player vs. Environment)? In Runes of Magic there are no factions like Horde and Alliance in World of Warcraft. Instead, players can flag themselves for PvP and kill anyone. New players are safe from ganking on PvP servers until they reach level 10. At that point they become fair game. Keep that in mind when choosing whether to play on a PvP or PvE server. On a PvE server you can only PvP if you have your PvP flag on. Another risk of a PvP server is item dropping. If you get killed by someone around your level you have a chance to drop gear or items from your bag. Another interesting feature of the PvP in Runes of Magic is reputation. You gain reputation from killing the bad guys (red-flagged players) and lose reputation from killing non-red players. You can choose to be good or evil. You have a smaller chance of dropping items if you are a good player and a greater chances of dropping items if you are red.
Choose the class you would like to play. You can play a warrior, rogue, druid, priest, warden, knight, mage or scout. Choose your class based on your playing style. If you like to heal, be a priest or druid. If you want to do mad melee DPS (damage per second) choose a warrior or rogue. Knights are tanks. Scouts, wardens and mages are range DPS. When you reach level 10 you will be able to select a secondary class. Some skills are interchangeable between the primary and secondary classes.
Customize the look of your character and give him or her a name. Now you’re ready to play.
When you first log in you will get a Newbie Pet. Your pet will help you when you’re in trouble by giving you buffs or healing you. It can also clear experience and talent point debt. When you die
