Aren’t you tired of 9/11 being used as a political tool. I know I am. Former Congressman Rick Lazio never misses an opportunity to demonstrate that he lives in a perpetual state of desperation. To use street vernacular, which is where Lazio always takes his campaigns, he tried to Bogart, Hillary Clinton, when he ran against her for junior senator of New York. By leaving his podium and stepping to her in their debate, he was showing his gangster. That lost him the election. His latest affront is the most despicable, tasteless political ad that I can recall, in recent memory. It utilizes 9/11 imagery to state his opposition to Park 51, the so-called Ground Zero Mosque, while pointing out his opponent Andrew Cuomo’s support for religious freedom. That tasteless advertisement has probably cost him the election. Mr. Lazio is sleazy, plain and simple. He’ll never be elected dog catcher, let alone Governor.
Pusillanimous popinjay that he is, Lazio doesn’t deserve the entire blame. He was just taking a page off of his role model’s book. Since that fateful day, America’s mayor, Rudolph Giuliani has never missed an opportunity to pimp 9/11. That’s right I said it, “pimp” 9/11. Mr. Giuliani, the epitome of tastelessness only knows a noun, a verb and 9/11 to quote Vice President Biden. It should therefore come as no surprise that Mr. Giuliani saw fit to weigh in on the mosque controversy, as manufactured as it is. The American people are confronted with serious challenges. The mislabeled Ground Zero mosque should be the least of their worries. Even ethically challenged New York Governor David Paterson has seen fit to weigh in on the issue. So desperate is he for any attention, that he has offered to mediate, where there should be no debate. The builders of the multi-use Cordoba Center, which is two blocks from the site of Ground Zero and will only dedicate two floors for the purpose of prayers, not only have a Constitutional, but also a moral right to build on ground that they own and have owned for over a year. To suggest doing so would show a lack of sensitivity, is itself and act of insensitivity.
To suggest the Cordoba Center should move to another location is to suggest that Islam, the religion, is guilty of the atrocity that took place at the World Trade Towers
