Communication has become such a catch word these days, it is a panacea for all ills and a solution for everything that goes wrong in the world and with life. When used effectively and for positive social interaction, communication can fortify family dynamics and is a powerful tool for world understanding and peace. However, negative communication exploiting the use of words to mislead, misconstrue, and used as a weapon against free speech, it becomes highly over-rated. The concept of communication becomes lost in bombastic verbosity.
People must learn to hone their listening skills first, because often a person may be listening to what someone is saying, but doesn't always hear what is being spoken, so they fail to make that vital contact through effective communication. Brains are so often in overload, that rather than taking the time to really listen, people are instead preparing a response; distracted by various environmental stimuli and not concentrating on the listening process. When people participate in selective listening, communication is lost. As they say: When you want to hear the real story, listen first to his version/ her version, and finally the real version or the truth.
Communication is over-rated because one seldom gets to first base with such an inept way of interaction. Cave men communicated quite well when there was no formal language and responses to one another which consisted of grunts and noises, paired with much body language to make oneself be understood. It would be very difficult to misinterpret one's indication of "You are trespassing on my property...." or "This is my meat, as I killed the animal from afar, so stay away". If indeed, making love to a woman consisted of dragging her by the hair into the cave, verbal communication is not necessary, as only actions speak, and communication becomes over-rated.
Look at how far communication has evolved with modern man and the age of high tech gadgets. Future generations no longer need to learn how to write by hand. Beautiful handwriting is a thing of the past. It will die with today's grandparents. Life has become so fast communication must be short and sweet, as people no longer want to speak or write in complete sentences. It is a waste of time. Within time, one may go back to the grunting of the cave man, as they communicate in twitter, tweet, text-messaging.
Take horse and dog whisperers, for instance. Do they speak in
