As an apprentice to start with the main criteria is that you are interested in the job you are learning. during my apprenticeship in my first week i didn't ask enough questions which led to quite a telling off. So from that point i kept asking many questions about the obvious things that i dint actually no as id only just started work. I you find yourself standing with nothing to do DO NOT sit txting your friends, pick up a broom and sweep or pick up any mess just keep doing something as this leaves a good impression on your colleague.
Another key problem that i found in the first three years of my apprenticeship was the lack of money. The money you receive is fairly poor in most jobs but don't be put off by this. the money is at this stage just a sort of present as you are not actually doing anything that actually earns your boss any money. the money that you earn is a sort of trust from your boss hes happy to pay you expecting you to be taking in the experience and gaining from it.
As an apprentice you will be the but of all the practical jokes it happens to everyone. Every apprentice receives the abuse and in a couple of years you will have your own apprentice to repay all that was done to you, its a constant circle.
you should be patient if you have a short fuse or get stressed while at work you may unfortunately be sacked.
You should always most important of all remember most apprenticeships in construction are without a contract especially if you are under the age of eighteen. but as a general overview just work hard, listen and be patient and you should be ok.
