Poetry: The day love died

by H Brown

Created on: August 19, 2010

"Wolfman"

was it the day of his last broadcast?

or on the day he finally succumbed?

either way, as any long-hauler knows

that was the day that love also died

he was the pump of America's heartland

the tallest antenna of human conscience

when he passed all the love decayed

no more throaty purr of do-the-right-thing

music corroded like a long-exposed nail

something sucked out the souls in the vinyl

beckonings of hate and freewill grew louder

until devil himself began talking backwards

he was the defender to fight the good fight

against the Committee to Keep Rock n' Roll White

he slew the demon named Cousin Brucie

if only he were here to kick Howard Stern's ass

he could have preached el amor hermanado

and smoothed away exploitation of Mexicans

but love went and died of a massive infection

and evil slithers and crawls across the land

the only howl of chance to keep the darkness at bay

is a recorded live broadcast made by The Wolfman
