Do you have a website for your business but not many sales resulting from it? It may be time to up your game and turn your website into the money making tool you want it to be.
Analyze your design
The first step to improving your website is to analyze its overall look. Is it relatively clean and well organized? Minimalism is the key. Are your headings easy to locate by a nice task bar across the top or side? Can customers find the shopping cart or “buy” keys? Are the colours easy on the eyes? Is the font too small or otherwise hard to read?
If you are having trouble taking a step back from your site to look at it with fresh eyes, involve your friends, business colleagues and other professionals to test drive it for you, or consider hiring a web designer to help you. They are trained to know what visually attracts people to websites and will offer you suggestions on how to improve your site, even if you wish to do the programming yourself.
Advertise
Just like with a brick and mortar store, you have to put a fair amount of effort into advertising your website. I'm sure you are familiar with the concept of submitting your website to the major search engines. If not a simple google search can bring up a host of information, but you should go further than that. Think outside the box of other companies that might benefit from your product or service that you could partner with and ask for reciprocal links. Buying google ads is also an effective way to drive more traffic to your site.
Stimulate your customer
With traditional shopping, one uses their five senses to experience the product; they get to see all sides of it, touch it, pick it up, operate it, hear what it sounds like, etc. With Internet shopping that whole scenario is reduced to a one dimensional experience. There is a lot you can do to simulate the 3d effects of brick and mortar shopping and increase your online sales.
Get yourself a video camera and make a nice backdrop and table setting. Grab a couple of professional looking friends and create a video of yourself demonstrating your product. Upload your video to youtube, link it back to your site and create a buzz around your product.
An example of this is with Blendtec, the power blender. They created videos of their super blender blending up impossible objects like iphones. It created such a stir that their videos have over eight million views. You may not want to use your product to destroy things
