Poetry: Wake up call

by Masimba Mukichi

Created on: August 18, 2010   Last Updated: August 20, 2010

Hey, fellas, hey lads,

It does not need spectacles,

To notice that we are dying in numbers,

It does not need supernatural powers,

To  tell us that we are dying young.

Drugs and binge drinking is the cause.

Hiv and Aids  is menacing us.

We have to think twice before we act.

We have to think twice before we indulge in unprotected sex.

We have to think five times before we take drugs,.

We have to think ten times before we take excessive booze.

Remember we have a future.

Remember we should be productive to boost our economies.

Remember a country cannot survive with aged people only.

It is a wake up call, we have to act responsibly.

Stay away from drugs, unprotected sex and binge drinking.

We are the cream of the crop, we are the future.

Let us be responsible, let us value our lives.

It is only a wake up call.

A word to a wise-man is enough.

Stay clean , stay sober you are the cream of the crop.

We're the nation's future barristers and doctors.

Don't get wasted in the streets.

It is just a wake up call. let us not live to regret.

The sun is shining now, let us make the needed hay.
