As we all know, it's that time of year again. Time for the talent show 'The X Factor' to return. The X Factor 2010. We sit at home every Saturday religiously, watching the talented, and the not so talented sing their heart out in front of the most influential people in showbiz, and now an audience.
"The next winner could be you" We all heard this advertisement after last years series came to an end with the unsuccessful winning single from Joe. "The Climb" sadly was the first X Factor song not to reach number 1 in the charts.
The problem with this show, and similar ones such as Britain's Got Talent, is that it is very unfair. I personally entered the X factor this year, and got through to the last 150 in Birmingham. Doing this makes you realise how much of a 'con' the show really is! As I walked into my third audition, I learned that a teenager who took the lyrics on a piece of paper and well, was absolutely awful, got through! How many people do they put through, that are wasting a space from a talented individual? I would say that 70% of the people who get through are the 'bad' singers, and just entertain the public instead of showing off our talent! When I eventually got the phone call explaining I had not got through, I received it on the morning of the auditions, after I emailed, called and even posted a letter complaining that I had not been contacted after six weeks, when I was told I would be informed in two!
Not only this, but the truth is, that the shows judges only see around 50 people per city, which is not a lot considering over 10,000 auditioned in Birmingham alone! This makes us all wonder, how the bloody hell did Jedward get where they did? The first three auditions, you are judged by the producers, bit of a shock to many auditionees, as they think they are in a queue of thousands to sing in front of Cheryl, Simon, Louis and Dani! At the first stages of the competition, the many people that turn up are basically used for camera shots of people cheering-not good...
Let's face it, we are all going to be stuck with many bad singers again this year, funny on television, but when talented singers audition and don't get through like they have, frustration also kicks in! I just hope we don't have another Jedward this year!
