No they should not, by acting this way you invariably compromise the operation of the company that you work for. As well as your judgment, integrity, and your effectiveness as a boss to lead the way and to what you are accountable for is seen by others.
Advice: think things through before you gamble your career away.
If he or she was to be caught by you, you would do nothing because of your involvement with that employee. The lesson learned by letting it go: all to often is going to be left to run ramped by doing nothing about it.
As such it will spread like cancer, effecting every thing that is counting on you and your authority which will then be compromised. Making things less effective even further. If left in the hands of the lower, it will remain on the path of destruction: black mail and nepotism. Pulling your focus even further away with worry.
Then comes irremovable headaches when they start showing up later and later for work expecting you to do nothing and really how can you. If it was seen as what you were doing, even more of the wrong. Then ask yourself this question: can you make it right? Yes, only you would need to quit. Really think twice before you do so, don’t do it.
This is even seen from the military structure stand point. That lower EM’s are not allowed to mingle N.C.O (None commissioned officer’s). They are not allowed to mingle with the brass in fear of the same, except the punishment is more severe. The mission of greater defense would then be ineffective, many lives depend on your call.
Truly we are human and we never know who that one special person is going to be in our life. As a suggestion if it means you are the one, then you need to do the right thing here so your life will not be tarnished.
Take a transfer, or if that is not an option, then one or the other needs to make a choice so that your career is not hanging in the balance.
Fast and very discreetly as possible. Question is then: who going to resign? After all if this is real then your decision will be to step down.
Remember what it took for you to become a manager. It is something you should not take so lightly. Truly you’re the one that has to answer up for all of what you brought on to yourself. Due to the better lack of true judgment to yourself. Salary now becomes celery.
