Flash fiction: Money isn't everything

Created on: August 17, 2010

"Congratulations Pryce Fisher, you just won $200,000 through Random Manson sweepstakes!  How do you feel?" The announcer asked me excited.

How do I feel?  How do I feel?  How do I explain the elation and joy sweeping through every ounce of my ecstatic body.  "Awesome," I answer simply.

After taxes and other random fees, my bank account swelled to $148,000, that is before my family and friends started asking.

"Hey Pryce," my friend Kate started, "I want to start a company selling ribbons, but I don't have enough money, can you help me?  I promise I'll pay you back".  $20,000 to Kate.

"What's up, Pryce?" my brother started, "Hey there's this BMX bike I've been looking at for a while.  It will really help me win a few competitions coming out, do you think you could help out your only brother?"  $10,000 for Steve.

"I mean, I like our house," my dad began, "But I've always wanted a house in Hollywood Hills, but I can't get everything."  $70,000 for large down payment on parent's house.

"If you think about it, if it wasn't for us, you wouldn't have even applied for the sweepstakes.  Don't you think we should get a little reward?"  $5,000 each for my five gambling buddies.

"Grandpa just passed away," my father informed me, "I know he wanted to have a statue over his grave, but he knew he could never afford it".  $30,000 for Grandpa's burial plot and angel statue.

So really, I won less than $25,000 for myself, but you know what, money isn't everything.  Helping out family and friends is.
