Aren't Friday nights supposed to be full of fun and friends? Fill of adventures in bars and parties?
When then, am I here, alone, sitting on my deflated couch waiting for my phone to ring?
"Matt!"
"What, Mom?" I shout back. Nothing like my mother to reinforce my lack of Friday night joy.
"Someone is here to see you!"
"Tell them to go away, I'm not interested!" Dumb door-to-door salesman. Don't they know Friday night is the worst night to sell me crap.
"It's Linda." I jump off the couch faster than if I had sat on a painful tack.
"Hey, Linda," I say smoothly, a little out of breath as I reach the open door. Linda simply stands there, looking more radiant than ever. The slight winter breeze flows through her short hair.
"Hey Matt, sorry I came to your door, I couldn't reach you on your cell."
"Yea, there was some mix-up with the billing and..." I trail away.
"Anyway," Linda starts, shifting her weight from one foot to the other, "I was wondering if you wanted to come to Henry's party tonight. Everyone's supposed to bring someone, so I was thinking..."
"Yes," I cut her off, excited. She smiles her sweet smile. "Let me grab my coat."
I love Friday nights.
