“Everyone has a price.” Travis thought as he locked the car door. Life was rife with offers to compromise one’s morals and values. He entered the bank, thinking about that movie with Demi Moore; Indecent Proposal; one millionaire, a married couple and sex for money.'Yes, everyone had a price, even he did. Swinging the door open, Travis decided that Demi Moore was worth the compromise.
Getting settled in at his desk Travis thought, ‘I have certainly done well.’ ‘The only way to make money was to be in the business of money’ was his motto.
The day took its routine course, loan papers, ‘Not many of those would pass his scrutiny’, he thought. As if the money were his own. Customer calls, questions, and problems, a routine day, in bank life.
Travis looked up, his gaze sliding over Mrs. Derkin, probably waiting to balance her checkbook again, when he saw her. She was simply angelic, with an edge. Lean, exotic, with a fall of dark wavy hair. At the glass entrance, with the sun at her back, she glittered, a mirage in a movie. Her dark eyes scanned the room with cool ease. She smoothed the front of her sundress gracefully, with long, delicate hands. Travis stood mesmerized.
Luminous eyes, with a touch of gold, set themselves on Travis. He began to rise and come around his desk, with hand extended. Acutely aware of his good fortune, his inflated ego wondered if he should ask her for dinner tonight. After all he was gainfully employed, with a future, a fine catch for any woman.
Travis barely heard Mrs. Derkin clear her throat, as he walked past. Everyone looked up simultaneously. He knew they were captivated, too.
He wasn’t wrong, though Eva would have said captive.
Knowing that being a sociopath attracted people to her, Eva exploited her effect on others. It seemed the personality disorder enhanced her beauty. She leaned back, in sexy fashion and locked the doors, only Jack, in the car parked at the curb, caught the fluid motion. She stepped forward, aimed directly at the bank manager.
Eva believed that everyone had a price. There was one thing more important than money, to most. Eva knew money wasn’t everything, when life was the price.
