Do you have a job that requires you to present to other people? If you said no, you are in a severe minority. Just because you don't have to make big pitches to your bosses doesn't mean that you don't have to present to people. Presentation and public speaking skills are critical when you are trying to get ahead at the office.

Keep in mind that you are always presenting yourself to people whether you realize it or not. Even if you are just talking to customers about the products that the company is rolling out, or talking to your boss about a new idea you have, it is a presentation and you are pitching yourself to others whether you realize it or not.

It isn't what you say, but how you say it that will get the job done. You can really hurt or help yourself by what you say in the office, and how your come across while you say it. If you told your boss that you could get more done while working at home once or twice a week, the boss might consider it. If you told the boss you just don't want to drive to work, you will look like a slacker in the office.

Other people are always watching how you act in different situations. If you are aiming to move up in the office one day, you are going to have to start practicing your maturity and interpersonal skills. You need to know how to talk to people, how to solve problems, and how to be a team player. If you can learn that, you will be one of the few in the office that get developed further at some point.

Knowing how to present in meetings isn't a bad skill to have though. You can never go wrong by going to classes to practice your speaking, and it will pay off at work. Knowing what an audience wants to hear and what you need to tell them will make you look like a genius at the office. It will help the company improve sales and give you powerful new contacts that you can use in the office.

If you are good at public speaking, you are in the minority. If you are not good at public speaking, you need to learn how to do so. This will help you out when you are at work and you are being watched by others hoping you will slip up. Outsmart your competition in the office and impress your boss at the same time. You can't go wrong with good presentation skills.
