Obesity is a huge problem for those of who are actually obese. Along with being predisposed to serious diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, joint problems and certain types of cancer, obese people are often subject to ridicule, outdated stereotypes, cruel barbs and even being ostracized by friends and family members. So if obesity really has become an epidemic, if there really is a significantly larger degree of obese people than ever before, something must be done about it.
That being said, I personally believe that the obesity epidemic is all just hype. Some people are slender, but very few are emaciated. Some people are chubby, fat even, but very few are obese. This is the way it has always been. Some folks have a harder time keeping weight on while others find it more difficult to keep it off. And how exactly do we even know if obesity has actually increased in the past decade or two? It is almost impossible to find sustainable records on anything and frankly, statistics can be made up. For instance, as the writer of this article, I could easily say that sixty six per cent of adults in Canada are overweight this year compared to forty per cent twenty years ago. The reader has no clue of who I as the writer am or where I got my statistics from, but I sound like I know what I am talking about so they believe it. That doesn't make it anywhere near accurate.
Guess what? The same people who are trying to convince you that over half of the world is grotesquely obese and that you are next on the fat train are the same people trying to shove Ritalin down your kid’s throats, antidepressants down your throat and Viagra down your father's throat. Come on. You know who these people are. They are money hungry doctors, greedy pharmacists and multimillionaire corporations. Corporations like the diet industry, the beauty industry, the pharmaceutical industry and the cosmetic surgery industry are teaming up together to convince you that you are obese. And if you are not morbidly obese you are at least too chubby to be considered desirable or even healthy. You are likely not obese, just like your kids likely do not need to be put on drugs that will turn them into zombies. Your doctor, pharmacist and the rich corporations that they are affiliated with just want to make money off of your insecurities.
By the way, here are a few
