“Content is king” – you probably have heard this banal slogan a few times too many, including “content is nothing – relative content is everything” variation and such. If you are serious about getting successful on the Internet, you should not underestimate the significance of keyword-rich, well balanced, relative and appealing content. It is vital.
Whether you are running a personal blog or an e-commerce business, collecting votes for your vacation pictures or trying to earn money by selling advertisement space on your home page – you need fresh, engaging content to attract web traffic. The proper planning in the beginning is crucial. The following five-step plan to attractive web content will save you time, money and from frustration along the way.
Define clear goals
Before you start hammering on the keyboard and creating keyword-rich content for your website you should get a clear image of your desired goal. What are you planning to accomplish? Write down how you would define and measure your success. Be specific and realistic. Vague terms such as “be popular on the web” often fail to materialize. Specific goal like – “be in the top five of snowboard equipment brands for male 16-21 age group” may be somewhat aggressive but it’s definitely specific. A well defined problem has a hint to its solution. Take a look at an example of “snowboard goal” – it has clues to what kind of content is needed, narrows down keywords and image gallery. It also clarifies the type of websites and printed media where this company should advertise in or get backlinks from.
Know your audience
Many websites are set to pursue too broad spectrum of visitors and are creating a wide range of content, as a result - they loose the focus and relevance. A typical example – “Dog and Cat’s essentials” website would get more loyal followers as separate entities. Narrowing down the pool will also make the process of converting prospect to a client easier and more natural. Plus keyword density will translate into more relevant web traffic.
Know your clients’ slang. If your clients or prospects use a specific terminology, technical jargon or esoteric lingo – you should know it to and use it in your content. That is what your client will search for. For example, what may be called “pencil” on back-to-school-sale page must be listed as “Faber-Castell
