Setting yourself a fitness goal is one of the quickest way to weight loss. Goals are remarkable things that keep us on track and help us stay motivated when it comes to losing weight, getting fit or achieving anything else you set for yourself. Losing weight on its own is boring goal. It’s only a number and makes it difficult to stay on track. By setting yourself a fitness goal instead you’ll feel much more motivated to lose weight.

If you’re trying to lose 10 or more kilograms one idea might be to set yourself a fitness goal to be able to run 5km without stopping and than to sign yourself up for a 5km fun run. That’s a more interesting goal than losing 10kg in three months. It’s also much more achievable. Besides your fitness level is much more important than your actual weight.

This fitness goal will keep you on track. If you have the 5km in mind than you can set your exercise routine according to that goal. You know that you’re going to have to start running. Never run before? No problem. Your first few training sessions will probably involve more walking than running but with each one your running distance will increase and within weeks you’ll notice that you can run a kilometer, then two, three, four and finally five kilometers without stopping to catch your breath. This type of fitness goal will help you lose weight. It will motivate you to lose weight because you will be able to track and notice your progress with each exercise session.

Once you achieve that goal you can increase your fitness goals which will keep helping you to achieve your weight loss goals. You might want to try a novice sprint triathlon, start training for a half marathon or simply be able to swim twenty laps of the pool without stopping. Whatever your fitness goal is it will help you stay motivated to lose weight and continue to maintain that weight as you set more challenging fitness goals. The fitness goals will keep you motivated, help you stay on track and keep your body and mind challenged reducing any chance of boredom, plateau and finally stopping exercise.

Fitness goals really are an effective way to motivate you to lose weight. Find a fitness goal that is important to you and will keep you on track. You’ll have fun and reap the benefits much sooner than if you’re just focusing on weight loss itself.
