Chapter Seven: The Haunted Treasure House Down the Street
One urban fantasy I have is to discover a haunted treasure house down the street. With the popularity of ghost investigation programs on cable, a haunted house could be worth a fortune. If the house is over 250 years old, imagine how many ghosts may inhabit it. There might be accident or murder victims inside that would be draws for investigators. If you have the equipment and guts to be inside the house overnight, you might create a sensation on the Internet with your findings.
If there is old furniture inside that may be from the era, you can either restore it if you intend on making the house a tourist attraction or sell it over the Internet. If the furniture is in good shape and made by a famous furniture maker, it could be worth tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Make sure to bring a metal detector because decades ago, people didn't trust banks and buried their life's saving in the basement and in the walls. If you found a handful of gold coins, they could be worth more than what you make in a year. If you were to find large pennies from the 1790's, they would be worth hundreds of thousands since they are so rare. So make sure you bring a metal detector.
The creepy looking paintings on the wall could have been painted by famous painters and worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. And if the people are famous, the price could climb even higher. One painting of George Washington or Thomas Jefferson that is unknown could be worth millions.
My ultimate urban fantasy concerning a haunted treasure house is to find one that not only George Washington slept in but can be seen in every now and then. Also, the furniture should be sellable and the art work on the walls should be worth so much that it is sold to galleries and collectors and exchanged for reproductions. If the house once belonged to a historical figure it may draw in tourists from all over. And at night there could be haunted tours and investigations. What once looked like a candidate for the wrecking ball and crew could, with some work, become a haunted treasure house that is worth more than most people could imagine.
