The question: “Do prayers work,” will undoubtedly elicit numerous individual and highly personal responses. After all, the term “prayer” [itself] seems quite nebulous. It can refer to several divergent forms of spiritual communication… may be directed toward any number of theologically and culturally accepted deities… and is relatively dependent upon an individual believer’s ongoing spiritual relationship with a particular deity, or even plurality of deities.
Consequently, in our modern multicultural and pantheistic society – where it is claimed that, “All paths invariably lead to God” – we are [foolishly] led to believe that all deities are equally: existent, ever-present, omniscient, and omnipotent. However, the theological concept of “Omnipotence” factually precludes the existence of more than one All-Powerful Being. If a plurality of gods truly did exist, then there could be only one who is “All-Powerful;” and ultimately in charge of the Macroverse. The rest of them could only remain subservient - to His solitary: Will, Authority, and Power.
Ultimately, the first prerequisite to obtaining answered prayers would absolutely require fervently and effectively communicating with the right one. After all, if the “All-Powerful One” is displeased with, or firmly against, your expressed petitions - then there is nothing that any other deity can [honestly] do for you. Consequently, we can deduce – with a plurality of gods being worshipped worldwide - that at least some prayers aren’t being answered, or even largely considered by anyone.
The very idea, that all religious systems devised by man can be equally valid should raise a great number of individual eyebrows, anyway. Can we truthfully name any other human area of knowledge, or expertise, where multiple and conflicting answers are simultaneously true? Or, where the majority of human beings weren’t egregiously in error? And [precisely] how did the area of religious understanding escape this normative tendency toward our own human imperfection? Rather, it is far more likely that all of them are wrong, than even half of them being honestly correct!
In either case, this is a true human tragedy - since I am certain that many of these petitions are quite sincere, heart-felt, and necessary for success or even survival. More importantly, however, these ongoing spiritual failures continue to
