The House Where No Love Lives
It's a sad little place
inside and out
where little ones cry
and big ones shout.
It's on my block
and on yours too
everyone sees it
but they just stare through.
There's tears and yelling,
holes in the walls
and mamas who bruise
from mysterious falls.
And children who must
be seen and not heard
who silently scream
every unspoken word.
Little face pressed
to the window in shame
knowing the chaos
is somehow her blame.
As the door slams shut
tires squeal in the night
we plug up our ears
and turn out the lights.
From my back porch
I see, and I know,
Because I used to live there
a long time ago,
In the darkness and noise
where no one forgives
in the house on your block,
where no love lives.
