We've all heard about instituions too large to fail, but what about the Roman Catholic Church? The Catholic mega-institution, so rich in history and tradition, and boasting over a billion members, is privately in turmoil. Many commentators have given their opinion as to why...and most, if not all, have missed a major point: we are near the end of the astrological Age of Pisces, and the RCC's heyday is long gone.
Neptune rules Pisces, and the Age of Pisces has Neptunian ideas and influences abundant in our culture and world. (I wrote an article about the Great Ages in astrology and information about the Great Ages can be found elsewhere.) Neptune is about the illusory, imaginary, and ideal. The Pisces sign is about struggle, sacrifice, and redemption. Neptune is known to be, at least according to one seasoned astrologer, something that appears to be good, but then turns out to be not so good. The story of Jesus, and the center of the Roman Catholic faith, the death and resurrection of Jesus, is very Piscean and influenced by Neptune. How to Catholics know that they're "correct"? Faith! (Pisces/Neptune.)
The RCC has made many wonderful contributions to the human race. Many of its members exhibit a great faith and willingness to sacrifice for the good of their human brothers and sisters. But the Church has a side that is not so good, and I think of it as having an alcoholic parent. Many events and actions of the clergy are kept hidden and left unsaid and unexposed, although they are most certainly wrong, and often, illegal and immoral. The child molestations and cover-ups are a foremost example.
Now, we are approaching the Age of Aquarius. Uranus rules Aquarius and Aquarius is an air sign. Air is about thought and water (Pisces is a water sign) is about emotion. So instead of faith (arguably emotionally-based), we are collectively demanding more answers and logical proof instead of trusting an authoritative source without question. The internet has largely made this possible along with other media.
How are the Pope and the hierarchy of the Catholic Church dealing with our rapidly changing world? Not very well. The shift from the collective to the individual is continuing. The Age of Aquarius is about brotherhood and friendship, but it's also about the individual. Destiny is no longer farmed out to a religious authority figure: it's each person's own responsibility. Can the Pope and the Church respond to such a radical change in our post-year 2000 world? Maybe, but if they can, the RCC will not be recognizable. And if they don't, we may not have a Roman Catholic Church any longer.
