It was one rainy evening when Patricia had to rush to her friend’s debut despite her mother’s disapproval. The disapproval did not come as Mrs. Lee’s lame excuse because she was not feeling well. She was very much concern about her daughter not only because the lighting and thunder took turns in making the night perfect for a vampire movie but because she knew her daughter would be with a not-so-good company.
Patricia had to dance, drink, giggle, smoke, and laugh with her friends to fit in or may be just to be casual. She felt she really enjoyed the night with them. Of course, what made the night even more exciting was the presence of her long –time boyfriend of five years. He was the one who drove her to the place despite being fully aware of her mother’s resistance of her going to the party.
The night got deep, yet Patricia had not yet got home. Mrs. Lee felt her body shivered but was uncertain at first what caused it – some sort of reaction to infection, the air-con, or the fear of what might possibly happen to Patricia. When the shivering continued, instinct had it on her. She reached for the medicine just beside her. She needed water and had to go to the kitchen where the ref was stationed.
It was almost two in the morning when Patricia got home still filled with “beer spirit.” She was drank and Luis had to guide her. On their way to Patricia’s room, Luis noticed Mrs. Lee. Well, what he saw was Mrs. Lee’s body on the floor. The sight of her mother on the floor seemed to have taken Patricia out of the influence of liquor. She was back to her senses. She knelt and held her mother towards her.
“Mom, mom, wake up!”
Yet her mom did not answer. Mrs. Lee was lifeless. Patricia cried and cried and did not know where the pain was coming from.
“Mom, don’t leave me. Luis let’s get mom to the hospital. Please!”
It was too late. Patricia missed the last chance to let her mom know how she truly loved her. She did not know that night was her last chance. if only did she know...
