The scorching heat of the summer sun proved unbearable yet Lindsay seemed heedless of how her skin reacted. She loved how the salty water of the beach soothed her skin despite the blistering sensation the heat caused her. She had waited for summer to warm her as those cold lonely nights had caused her much anguish. She broke up with Brian.
No one really knew what was really happening inside her. Only she knew that she longed for someone to be loved and someone to love her. Her thought wandered to the possibility of having Brian back in her life but she knew it was impossible. She paddled toward the depth of the beach, kept on paddling hard until she felt her right leg got numb.
She turned to the direction where her friends were and paddled back. She could have easily got there without a numb leg.
“Help! Help!”
She shouted for help yet no one heard her. She tried to paddle for another meter yet she was exhausted as the current felt strong too. She choked, coughed, and lost consciousness.
The next thing she knew was that she was in a vehicle… She later found out she was in an ambulance.
After three days after that traumatic incident, Lindsay went back to the resort to thank the life guard who saved her life. When she got to the resort, she was informed that the lifeguard was out.
On her way out, Lindsay received a text message from her mom informing her that someone was looking for her. While in the cab, guilt haunted her for not thanking the man who saved her life. She was also bothered by that “someone”.
She felt a sense of excitement as she approached the gate. The door was ajar giving her a sense of being anticipated. When Lindsay got in, she saw her mom talking to an unfamiliar face.
“Mom? Uhhhm, the life guard was out…” she said but was brought to a halt when her mom said,
“He’s here honey.”
There was magic when their eyes met. Lindsay was speechless and there was silence for a couple of seconds.
“I’m Alan, the life guard.” Alan broke the silence and let a smile escape.
From then on, they became friends. Soon after, they started a lovely romance that summer.
